Mehrdad Afsari

Mehrdad Afsari, photographer, documentary director and video artist was born in 1977 at Khoy. Afsari got his B.A. and M.F.A in photography from Art University of Tehran. And later on, he joined the academic team at TAU and teaching for 14 years. He is an honorary member of Iranian Visual Artists Society, as well.

 

Since 2002, Afsari has run 15 solo local exhibitions. To name a few “The Gradual Disappearance of Things” and “America, Suspended Land” _ Mohsen Art Gallery, “The Sacred Geometry of Chance” _ Etemad Art Gallery , “The frenzied heart of mine, Houses the passionate countenance of thine” , “Gum Bichromate Print”, “Roadscape ” and ” The Felts ” _ Assar Art Gallery, “Photography as a Myth” _ Silk Road Art Gallery. Also, his works have been shown in more than 80 exhibitions globally in China, Germany, US, UAE, Lithuania, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Turkey, Georgia, France, Norway, and the UK.

To name a few international events that he has participated: Venice Biennial _ Italy, Paris Photo_ France, Contemporary Art Istanbul_ Turkey, Queens Museum of Art (QMA)_ the USA, MOA Museum of ArtThe Reina Sofia Museum _ Spain, Georgia Museum of Art and “University of Westminster _ London. Afsari is the winner of the 10th photo biennial in Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

He has also been the Jury member, lecturer, and curator of many national and international festivals and exhibitions. He published 2 books “The Gradual Disappearance of Things” and “EYE”- Photo Series- No.38 by Mahriz Publication.
