Wahed Khakdan

Wahed Khakdan (Painter–Illustrator) was born in 1950, Iran. Since early stages of his life, Khakdan became fascinated with art, props and different materials. The passion, which came from his family, has directed him to choose art as his major.

Khakdan went to the school of Fine Arts in Tehran between 1967-1970 and followed by studying at the Faculty of Decorative Arts. He got his BA in Interior Design.

His extreme passion about exploring different painting styles has started with abstract paintings and eventually transitioned into surreal. During the seventies he started exploring on painting realistic pictures, which apparently became his best-known working period. Khakdan held his first Exhibition in 1973 at Seyhoun Art Gallery–Tehran and till 1979 he ran 2 more exhibitions in Tehran and at the same time he held an exhibition at Art Basel in Switzerland.

After Iran revolution in 1979, Khakdan ran an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Tehran. For couple of years he worked as a Set designer for Tehran City Theater also as a children books’ illustrator. In 1984 he decided to move to Germany and since then he is working between Iran and Germany.

His work has exhibited in several European countries including Germany, Austria, Netherlands, UK and also in New York. Khakdan successful profile (1973-Present) includes more than 32 solo Exhibitions and 70 Group Exhibitions around the world.
